random sampling: how on earth did it get to this?
I keep finding myself in the strangest of situations.
The latest in a very long line of strange? I find myself hanging out with a group of moms on a regular basis. Yes, the only dude among the dudettes. The only thorn among the roses. The only nottie among the hotties.
And if that’s not weird enough, they all seem really cool with it.
How did it get to this? Well, blame Chloe. She’s been going to ballet class these past couple of months, and since the wifey works nights, I’ve been taking Chloe to her classes by myself, while the rest of Chloe’s classmates come with their moms.
And it would’ve gotten no further than that. I usually just sit in my corner of the room by myself (and my DS) and the rest of the moms talk amongst themselves, with minimal input from me. But then one of the moms invited Chloe and the rest of the class to her daughter’s 4th birthday, and everything went downhill from there. Another mom invited the class to her daughter’s 4th birthday as well. And then another invited the moms (and me) and kids over to her home for lunch and a play date.
And now I find myself in the freaking circle. They have conversations about their families, spouses, exes, love lives, shopping, and other mom/girl talk. All the time I’m just hanging with them, taking it all in.
It’s all so wonderfully strange, yet strangely refreshing.

Speaking of girl talk, Sex and the City: The Movie anyone?
Uhhhhh… I think I’ll pass. It’s enough that I already get my weekly dosage of estrogen, thank you very much.

I just don’t understand beer.
I’ve drunk my fair share of beer and never have I found any of it to my liking. I’ve tried all sorts of beer, but they all taste the same to me. I try to like it, but somehow it fails to enamor my taste buds.
If it’s for the buzz, then I’d prefer my buzz to come in other forms of alcoholic drink… Ones with far less bitter aftertaste.
I’ve yet to try the flavored beers… but the more commonly available beers, just taste awful. YMMV, naturally.
P.S. I don’t get wine either.

If I may be so bold, I’ll recommend my tutorial on how to drink beer:
http://tleaves.com/2005/11/14/how-to-drink-beer/
as a good introduction to at least being able to tell the differences between beers (which is certainly no guarantee that you’ll like any of them).
Thank you for the enlightening article. Shows how much I know (or don’t know) regarding beer. I just wish I had the time/opportunity/resources to properly develop my taste buds for the drink. No wonder I think beer tastes terrible, I’ve been drinking the Bizarro-Superman stuff!
